HWCM Gathering 23rd January 2009

This week's gathering seen a much less number of people since CNY is around the corner. Nevertheless, there were still a few of us who made it to exchange stories and HWs. The star of this week's gathering is obviously the VW New Beetle Cup.


The New Beetle Cup, has been chosen to be the first club car for HWCM. The support from members has been very positive and it is proven today as well. Cheers to you guys who have sent in your Beetle Cup!

Demonicle has made it clear in the gathering that he is trying to give out as many club cars to as many members as possible. So let's keep the contributions (and workload for Rayz & I) coming in!

Sinclair brought some Ferrari 333SP from this year's Ferrari Racers Series that he purchased to share amongst the members present. The first wave has hit our shores since last month but mysteriously this car no.5 has been missing. There is still one unit left for trade I think, go ask him about it.


Also, the usual greens made an appearance in the gathering, what is a HWs gathering without those greens?

Custom ’77 Dodge Van

At a quick glance of this card, you would probably make the assumption that it was the new card format for the year 2009 line-up.


However, closer inspection actually reveals that it is a year 2008 First Editions car for the Custom ’77 Dodge Van and the fourth color released in the year for this model.


The first three colors released during the year 2008 were yellow, grey and the most recent brown. All three have the same side flame decals with the words ‘Hot Wheels’ and FTE rims.


This fourth color of purple pink also has the same side flame decals but now installed with 5SP rims.


It also has the same windscreen and roof tint (black/brown color) as the third brown color, whereas the yellow has orange tint and the grey one has red tint.



Unfortunately, this fourth color has not been released in Malaysia yet and was obtained from overseas. We do hope that Mattel will release it in the near future for local collectors.

Overall, the First Editions of the Custom ’77 Dodge Van are worth collecting, as the design is very pleasing and there is much potential for this model in the future to be customized further.

2008 Lancer Evolution

This is the new casting from 2008, total 3 variant for 2008 First Edition / New Models, Metallic Deep Red, Metallic Gray and Slightly Metallic Dark Blue. Missing the Blue variant in these photos because it never been here in Malaysia yet.


The wave for the Lancers was very short, the 1st colour as Red was introduced, followed by the Gray, but the Blue haven't seen in the market yet.


The Red was once distributed widely on the Designers Challenge in August 2008, where the Gray was in Hot Wheels Pack of 3. We still hope will see the Blue variant in any time soon. YeoCP//
